The bastion, part of the town´s fortifications, has had an eventful history. After the walls ceased to fulfil their function and were gradually dismantled, it was given no care since the early 19th century. A complete renovation was carried out in 1996, within an overall restoration of the walls of which 1800 metres survive in Litoměřice up to the present. The bastion is named after Litoměřice teacher and scholar Ferdinand Blumentritt and Philippine national hero José Rizal, whose lives are presented here in a permanent exhibition. The centenary of Ferdinand Blumentritt´s death was commemorated in 2013.
