The Kalich house, which is one of the most original national cultural monuments in the Czech Republic, was built by the Italian Ambrosio Balli for the Mráz family from Milešovka in the 1670s. The construction was completed in 1581. This house served the Mráz from Milešovka. They held the office of Perkmeister of the vineyard mountains, for which they had a house built, which ends with a tower with a viewing mine that looks like a wine glass. After Bílá Hora, the house became the property of the city, in the 18th century it was the seat of the salt office, then a school, and since the 19th century it has been a municipal office. In 2017, repairs to the roof and roof began, when, in cooperation with the Faculty of Arts of the University of Warsaw, reconstruction was chosen using traditional historical procedures, including soaking wood, building and floating the raft, and manual processing of the individual load-bearing parts of the roof.

After the end of the construction work, it was decided that the non-load-bearing parts of the roof deserve restoration, and an exhibition will be created. The exhibition was conceived in a modern way, with respect for the building and with an effort to honor the carpentry craft. You won't find any banners or display boards at the exhibition. Instead of them, you can view the visual and textual part of the exhibition mapping the history of the house, the parts not accessible to the public and the progress of the reconstruction in touch information kiosks. You won't even find any overlit space at the exhibition. Instead, you will find sensitively lit places so that the genius loci of the roof can act on you.
Several exhibits were placed in the exhibition that were discovered during the renovation (painted planks and beams from the 16th century, an older dial made of split glass), the contents of an old poplar tree and a removed poplar tree with a spindle, traditional carpentry tools used in the reconstruction of the truss and an old clockwork machine. which powered the clock until 1991. The exhibition was opened on 20/05/2022.

You can view the exhibition as part of a visit to the Kalich observation tower
